The Ashes of Lothier

Grombo Returns Part 1
Where Our Heroes Invite The Mayor to a Town Forum....with their fists

Grombo, recovering from his health issues, received a detailed picture map from his friends explaining what had happened and why they had left. Grombo ran out to get them and bring them back so that they could rescue his other friends Wendell Mosengaw and Garni Kenfoddle.

Grombo came on the group shortly after they had slayed the Bugbears. After “hugs” were had, he told them that they had to go back to save his friends!

Illiana, who had orchestrated the groups exit in the first place would had none of this and told them to go on without her and she would remain at camp.

So the group, sans ranger, marched into the first tavern they could find, the Simple Gnome Inn. Grombo smashed down the door, and demanded of the innkeeper that he tell him where Grombo’s friends were.

Very confused, the innkeeper tried to handle the situation, eventually realizing Grombo was talking about Garni, the unfortunate former innkeeper of the Adventuring Cloud Inn. He told Grombo to keep his voice down (which is a bit like asking a harlot to be chaste) and that it was unfortunate but what were they to do when it was Mayor Danom Presk who was causing all the havoc with his harsh laws.

Grombo then decided they were to confront the mayor him self at his Residence and Capitol Building.

The plan was simple. Grombo and Tali would get arrested, then Alice and Daffyd would recue them so that they could rescue the others. Thus they became a four man infultration group, but Grombo is not good at talking so he called them “Grombo’s 11”.

So Grombo’s eleven approached the building. Grombo, ignoring the two guards that stood on either side of the front door, and the fact that the front door, being a building belonging to the town and it being midday, was most likely unlocked, walked between the guards and tried to kick the door down…and failed. Angry, he tried to headbutt the door. He successfully put his head through the door, but, regrettably, could not get it back out again.

Being that Grombo is in himself a walking confusion spell, it took a moment for the guards to decide any action at all. When they finally came to a conclusion to do something, they started trying to arrest the door-mounted Grombo.

Tali began intervening, punching the guards and trying to hold them off grombo. She eventually pulled Grombo free, and the two of them knocked out the guards.

They then charged into the building, Tali carrying one of the guards swords and Grombo brandishing helmets on either hand as make shift punching daggers. They took out four guards, scared of the women in charge of handling the mayor’s day to day affairs, and charged into the mayor’s office.

Where are "heroes" decide somethings just aren't their problem.

After the evil thing infected Grombo he felt very sick and ran off.

Poor Grombo.

Our plucky group of adventurers made due without their most bombastic acquaintance, climbing their way back up the stairs to explore the upstairs.

They found a young girl alive (but very tramatized). Dafydd found a lot of money that he didn’t share (and that the group never knew about) and they found Tason’s Diary.

The adventurers then left the house, returned the girl to her home, and ventured back to the Jobs Board where they saw quite a commotion.

Garni Kenfoddle was being arrested since his father was a supposed worshiper of Lothier and his inn, The Adventuring Cloud Inn was being burned to the ground. Wendell Mosengaw and his family, including his small son, were also being arrested since Wendell was friends with Garni.

The adventuring party, especially Illiana, decided that this was no business of theirs, that they should simply collect there money and GTFO.

Which they did, stopping first at Mallon’s Arm’s Arms a weapon shop ran by an interesting proprietor named Mallon. Dafydd left his skull there, Alice bought some weapons, and thus the adventures adventured forth…..away from the persecuted townspeople.

After camping outside the city, Dafydd awoke feeling quite ill and ventured back into the city to get himself healed. After making a considerable donation to the church and buying things he should have at first level, his skull herpes was healed.

Then our “heroes” wandered on, away from Portsmith, ending the evening by slaying to stupid bugbears.

Brothers Gotta Hug! Part 3
Our Heroes Meet, Greet, and Eat nasty Meat

After Vengi was slain in the saddest way ever, the party ransacked his corpse and found a mace no one wanted. Grombo tried to eat the book that smelled so nice and found the taste didn’t match. He then tried to eat the were rat.

Not to be outdone in poor decision making, the less than subtle thief found a treasure chest with a rotting skull inside and decided taking the skull was a good idea.

The party then ventured onward, past the destroyed stairway, and into the kitchen where Vengi the were-rat had been playing Iron Chef if the secret ingredient was people. After careful consideration and the explanation of his comrades, Grombo decided not to eat the meat.

The party then traveled to the next room, where they found some dire rats inside, which Tali and Dafydd destroyed quite easily. Afterwards Alice opened a cupboard, revealing a decaying corpse and the bugs that were feasting on it. Alice was quick to avoid the bugs, but one tunneled into Grombo.

Brothers Gotta Hug! Part 2
Our Heroes Meet, Greet, and Eat nasty Meat

Our ragtag group of adventures marched, walked, and poorly sneaked to the nameless part of town where they found the Creepy Old House. As ominous as it was a poorly constructed cliche of a building, the adventurers were fairly sure whatever was causing the disappearances lied within. Just why the good people of Portsmith couldn’t come to the same conclusion remains to be seen. Perhaps if the town guards actually did some investigating of the disappearances rather than just posting a note on “Ye Ole Cragslist” the town would be a safer place to live.

So Grombo decides to kick the front door down. He kicked a hole in the door. He backed up and ran full speed into the door and bounced off. Ilyana then walked up and opened the unlocked door.

It was unfortunate for her that she didn’t realize that at that moment Grumbo had decided to run full speed at the door with his giant hammer.

If you are keeping score at home: Door 2, Grumbo 0. Grumbo 1, Ilyana FUBAR!

Ilyana was knocked unconscious by a hammer to the face. Alice healed her back to health.

Meanwhile, a very confused Vengi investigated, leaving him very much more confused. He had thought they might be trouble and he would have to destroy them, but they seemed to be destroying themselves.

He closed the door at the top of the stairs, an action noticed by some of the adventurers. Grombo climbed to the top of the stairs and went to open the door. He slipped and fell backwards down the stairs. Angered at the stairs, those who would not hug him, and perhaps whoever had psychologically given him the need to be constantly hugging, he began bashing the stairs with his hammer, destroying the old rotting stairs.

After he cooled down, he attempted to pull himself up on the rotting stairs, but his weight crushed the stairs instantly. He then grabbed his smaller companions and set them on top of the stairs. They used rope, strength, and a lot of hope to pull Grombo to the top.

At the top of the stairs and through the door they met Vengi. Grombo apologized for treating his house like whack-a-mole, and Vengi said “Blah blah blah I’m totally not a bad guy can you read a book for me?” And everyone laughed because Grombo can’t read.

But the group was willing to try to read the creepy old guy’s book, but that meant going back down the chasm that used to be stairs.

Once the entire group made it down the stairs in a series of clumsy events, the Benny Hill music stopped playing and Vengi was ready to have his book read to him. Iyana geared up to read the creepy old man his bedtime story but found the book to be full of horrible dark things, written in a language she does not understand, and was bound in human flesh.

It was also at this time we learned that Grobo’s sense of smell rivals his abilities to negotiate doorways and stairs. The book smelled delicious to him and he wanted to eat it.

It was also at this time the adventurers noticed the blood dripping from the ceiling.

It was also at this time that Vengi decided that this group of morons was hardly helpful, and had in fact destroyed his house, so perhaps he should just kill them already. And that is when the innocent creepy old man that lives in an ominous house full of macabre knickknacks turned out not to be innocent at all, but a Were-rat. he transformed into a rat and got ready to kill.

Unfortunately for Vengi he slipped on the dripping blood, fell on his face, and the group proceeded to collectively beat him like a…well like a giant rat.

Sadly no one really knew Vengi, well not so much sadly, he was a pretty horrible person. All the same, there was more to his life than just were-ratting and cannibalizing. For instance, he was really into writing poetry, and was, particularly, a master of the heroic couplet. In fact, his last thought as he perished in such a strange way was:

“They came in bashing, catching me unawares.
Now I am as alive as I have stairs.”

Brothers Gotta Hug! Part 1
Our Heroes Meet, Greet, and Eat nasty Meat

Grombo arrived at the Job Board. Wendell Mosengaw told Grombo he could have one of the jobs if he went to the inn across the street and took along 4 other adventurers. Perhaps to a character more sophisticated than Grombo, this highly convoluted nonsense of DM convenience would be considered perplexing, but Grombo is a simple half-orc who likes to smash things. So he gave Wendell a thank you hug.

A BIG thank you hug.

After acting out “Of Orcs and Men” Grombo hid Wendell in a barrel in the alley. You may feel the need to question “Why?”, but if we start questioning the actions of Grombo we will be here all day.

Grombo entered the poorly named Adventuring Cloud Inn looking for new friends and the strongest drink and more people to assault…ahem….I mean “hug”. Dafydd Darkwater, a human with a penchant for hiding in all the wrong places and awkward nearly-vowel-less names, offered to buy Grombo the strongest drink in the house.

Garni Kenfoddle brought out a large ominous jug that he claimed came from several owners past. Grombo then drank some, making the first of several fortitude saves of the evening.

Our adventurers met. Those who could talk their way out of it received no Grombo hug, much to his disappointment.

Wendell, newly awakened from his time in the barrel, came into the Adventuring Cloud to tell his friend Garni all about the crazy Grombo filled day that he had. Grombo rushed over, relieved his new friend was okay, and gave Wendell another big hug. While being embrace, Wendell handed the job postings to Ilyana saying “You can have them all, just get out of here.”

Perhaps another group of characters might have questioned why exactly Wendell pulled each of the job postings off the board and brought them into the inn, but in there defense they had received a lot of Grumbo hugs and their blood was probably being impeded on its path to the brain. Let’s just assume Wendell has a really good reason to do this, and it wasn’t just the DM trying to get things moving in any way possible.

Of the three job postings, the group took the one about people disappearing from the nameless part of town. And so they ventured forth: Grombo in front marching, Ilyana, Alice, and Tali walking casually behind, and Dafydd in the way back attempting to hide…as he walked…in broad daylight.

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.
